The SIA Trainer Course runs over 5 days and is divided into 3 courses:

Conflict Management –
- Learn to figure out the main things that happen in any angry disagreement.
- Be able to tell the different stages a conflict goes through as it gets worse.
- Know how to spot the early warning signs of a conflict or someone getting aggressive.
- You’ll practice staying calm even when you’re faced with conflict or aggression.
- You will get good at managing what you say, how you say it, and your body language.
- Be able to show how to stay relaxed and handle angry customer behavior.
Physical Intervention –
- Understand the laws and rules for using physical force.
- Learn that avoiding physical intervention is always the primary goal.
- Know risks and safety measures involved in physical interventions.
- Become master personal safety and non-pain related techniques for control.
- Can understand safely manage and monitor someone during an intervention.
- Gain skills to plan and prepare effective physical intervention training.
- Develop the ability to deliver clear instruction and assess learners in these techniques.
First AID at Work –
- Learn incident management, recording, and reporting for casualties.
- Develop situational awareness for safe and prompt emergency response.
- Perform casualty examination, including secondary surveys.
- Manage unconscious casualties and provide adult basic life support (CPR).
- Address specific injuries: head, spinal, and chest pains (including heart attack).
- Control bleeding and treat bone, muscle, and joint injuries (fractures, dislocations).
- Handle choking, strains, sprains, and shock.
- Treat various eye injuries (embedded objects, chemicals, dust).
- Respond to poisoning and anaphylaxis.
- Manage major illnesses like heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetic emergencies.
- Provide first aid for minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.

Course Assessment

AET / PTLLS: There is no formal exam in this course. Your assessment is based on the portfolio you submit at the end of the course.
Level 3 Conflict Management: You will demonstrate your skills by participating in two scenario-based role-plays during class. Your final assessment will be based on your portfolio submission.
Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention: You’ll need to demonstrate physical intervention techniques, which will be recorded. Similar to the others, your final assessment will be a submitted portfolio.
First AID AT Work: There will be a short exam at the end and some practical activities need to be demonstrated during the class which will be taught in the class.

Entry Requirements of SIA Trainer Course

Become a SIA Trainer in the UK involves meeting a specific set of qualifications and provide relevant experience. These requirements ensure that trainers are competent, knowledgeable, and capable of preparing individuals for roles within the private security industry.

To join our SIA Trainer course, you must meet a few simple requirements. In short, you need:

Bring ID (Passport/Driving Licence + your SIA licence)
One form of proof of address (utility bill, council bill or bank statement).

Other Requirements

Occupational Competence and Experience –
- You must have practical experience in the security sector. This typically means a minimum of two years of frontline operational experience. This experience should be within the last five years for most SIA licence-linked courses. For example, Door Supervision, Security Guarding, CCTV Operation.
- You need to be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge relevant to the course you will be teaching. For example, if teaching Door Supervision, you should be proficient in conflict management and physical intervention techniques.
Teaching and Assessing Qualifications:
- A mandatory requirement is a recognized teaching qualification. The most common is the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET). This qualification allow you teach any subjects to adult people.
- From 2021, it became a requirement to hold an assessor qualification, such as the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA). This ensures you can effectively assess learners’ competence in practical skills, particularly in areas like conflict management and physical intervention.
